Xiaomi showed off the new Xiaomi 15 Ultra Special Edition as a celebration of Leica’s 100 years in the business. However, the company said that it would not be offered to the market.
Xiaomi 15 Ultra is already available globally. Weeks ago, the brand introduced the Xiaomi model’s limited edition custom colors. This week, it lifted the veil from the phone’s another special edition variant.
According to the company, the new special edition phone is part of a celebration for Leica’s century-long business. To recall, the German company plays a huge part in Xiaomi’s smartphone business, specifically its flagship lineups. The collaboration between the two extends to the hardware and software departments of Xiaomi’s devices.
In the material provided by the company, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra Special Edition boasts a classic Leica-themed retro design, including gold and black accents on its frame and camera island. The frame also sports a paint that easily chips, which is another nod to Leica’s classic camera design. As per Xiaomi, the paint is really meant to fade to reveal the shiny metal of the phone.
According to Xiaomi, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra Special Edition is based on the global variant of the Xiaomi 15 Ultra. As such, it also houses the same specs as the said version, including its powerful camera system composed of a 50MP LYT-900 (f/1.63) main camera with OIS, a 200MP telephoto (f/2.6) with OIS, a 50MP telephoto (f/1.8) with OIS, and a 50MP ultrawide (f/2.2).
The special model comes in a dedicated package box with a premium commemorative design. The box also contains the “Xiaomi x Leica Humanistic Photography Series” photo book and a 90W USB-C charger.
Yet, while this might sound interesting for fans, the Chinese brand underscored that the Xiaomi 15 Ultra Special Edition is just a gift to Leica CEO Matthias Harsch. Hence, the said variant will not hit the market, even in China. On a positive note, the standard Ultra model is now available globally.
